Recently we have adopted "scenario training". This is where we create a particular scenario and have each member of the team play out their role in solving the problem. For exapmple; Passenger arrives to the aircraft on a Sunday night at a remote airport, the engine will not start....... Who does what in terms of fixing the problem, communicating the options to the passengers etc. This is a common scenarion, however you can create anything you like, from a medical emergency to a hijack. It is great to role play without the pressure of a "real" situation.
Has anyone else used this type of training and found it effective for small teams?
You can even take it further and allow team members to assume roles of other positions which shows empathy and understanding of the pressures others may encounter. Recently we made the flight attendant the captain and the captain the handling agent. Was great to see how they reacted in their new positions.......
