View Full Version : Initial Training
I would be interested to hear about the quality of training from that of corporate aviation in comparison to that of the airlines. Has anyone been through both, if so is there a clear leader in terms of pilot and engineer training?
I think that the simulator portion the training is on an even comparison, however the ground systems theory seems to much more effective with the CBT (Computer based training) rather than an instructor standing infront of a whiteboard like that in most corporate aviation training centers.

CBT has a number of advantages, not least of which is the ability to time students or conversely allow the student to undertake it at their own pace. The main thing I have noticed in such systems though is that they are quite rigid in their presentation - in the sense that there is little scope for deviation from the prescribed answer or method, even if circumstances dictate other better possibilities...
CBT is obviously cheaper than an instructor unless you have the critical mass of students scheduled on the same class to make it worthwhile organising your own. With the small number of potential students at any one time in an average corporate operation this may be a key factor...
It depends a lot as well on how good the instructor is at presenting the material in an engaging fashion...
