Australian regional carrier Regional Express (Rex) has decided to take full ownership of the pilot training school it established late last year. The Civil Aviation Training Academy (CATA) was a joint venture between Rex and Mangalore Airport, where the school in based, but in a statement today Rex says it has been agreed that Rex will buy out Mangalore Airport and gain full ownership of the venture. Mangalore is located in country Victoria outside Melbourne. Rex’s statement fails to mention why the airline is moving to full ownership. But it quotes Rex acting managing director, Jim Davis, as saying “it was felt by the boards of both companies [Mangalore Airport and Rex] that the full acquisition would be in the interests of the academy”.
