Abu Dhabi Airports Company (Adac) announced at the Farnborough Airshow on Tuesday a plan to develop a facility for executive jets at the Al Bateen military air base, located some 10 kilometres from Abu Dhabi city centre.
The airport will offer a "one-stop shop" business jet facility with a dedicated terminal building, maintenance and repair and overhaul facilities.
Khalifa Al Mazrouei, Adac's chairman and managing director, said the aim was to create "one of the world's best executive airports".
Adac will invest $54.7 million (Dh200m) in the new facility.
The company did not say when the airport would become operational.
Business Jet Airports

Adac said it had made the decision in order to take advantage of a burgeoning executive jet market in the Middle East.
With rising prosperity in the region, exemplified by the fast pace business, leisure and infrastructure development across the Gulf states, business jets are becoming a very popular mode of transport for the prosperous.
Adac says over 900 business jets are expected to be based in the Middle East by 2014.
Al Mazrouei commented: "As a growing centre of international business and finance, Abu Dhabi has seen significant growth in the number of corporate jets coming to the city over the last few years".
He added: "With this development, we are able to meet that demand today and into the future".
Al Bateen Airbase

Al Bateen Airbase is currently a key base for the United Arab Emirates Air Force, with the air arm's transport and helicopter aircraft based there.
The new business jet airport is expected to replace the military facility within three years.
Al Bateen currently has a runway of 3,200 metres - long enough to handle the very largest corporate jets such as the Boeing Business Jet (BBJ) and the Airbus A319 CJ.
